Required Tools:
  • 3/8 Ratchet 3/8 6"
  • Extension 3/8 Torque Wrench
  • Metric Allen Sockets
  • Metric Torx Sockets
  • Metric Triple Square Sockets
  • 32MM Socket (Oil Filter Socket Set)
  • LED Light
  • Oil Funnel
  • Oil Drain Pan
Optional Tools:
  • Phillips Socket (if Phillips Half Turns)
  • Bendable Silicone Drain Shield
  • Locking Oil Funnel
  • 3/8 Battery Powered Ratchet
  • Brake Cleaner
  • Anti Splash Pad (Carbon)
Tutorial:
  1. Raise the car evenly using ramps or jack stands.
  2. Remove the splash shield beneath the engine by taking out the six half-turn screws and four triple square bolts.
  3. Remove the oil cap.
  4. Place your oil drain pan underneath the drain plug.
  5. Remove the Allen head drain plug and allow the oil to drain completely.
  6. Once the oil has stopped draining, install a replacement drain plug with a copper crush washer (a magnetic plug is recommended). Torque it to 20 Nm.
  7. Clean the surrounding area.
  8. Move your oil drain pan beneath the oil filter housing.
  9. Use an Allen head socket to remove the drain plug on the filter housing.
  10. Once the oil has finished draining, temporarily replace the drain plug on the housing.
  11. Carefully remove the entire oil filter housing using a 32MM socket, holding it over the oil pan to avoid spills.
  12. Remove the old oil filter element and replace it with the new one, ensuring it pops into place. Handle the plastic tabs at the bottom of the housing with care to avoid damage.
  13. Replace the o-ring on the filter housing drain plug, re-secure the plug, and tighten it to 4 Nm.
  14. Re-install the oil filter housing and torque it to 25 Nm. Do not attempt to hand-tighten or guess the torque, as the plastic housing can be damaged and cause leaks.
  15. Clean up any spilled oil and ensure the area is tidy.
  16. Fill the engine with oil (9 quarts for the Audi 4.0T engine).
  17. Replace the oil cap.
  18. Start the car and let it run briefly.
  19. Stop the car and measure the oil level, adding more if necessary.
Torque Specifications:

Oil Filter Cap (Housing) - 25 Nm
Oil Filter Cap (Housing) Drain Plug - 4 Nm
Fluid Drain Plug - 20 Nm
